Monplaisir Palace garden, Peterhof, 20180921 by G · RTM
View from the garden of the Monplaisir Palace on the Gulf of Finland.
Peterhof is about 40km SW of Saint Petersburg and it's the Russian Versailles. They started building this at the beginning of the 18th century and it was completed just after WWI. The Nazi's destroyed most of it at the end of WWII. They started rebuilding right after the war. Today the place looks incredible. I've see a least 25 people working the gardens that morning.
You can get there by hovercraft/ hydrofoil which departs from the back of the Hermitage and that will take 30 min. Or be cheap like me and use public transportation which will set you back just 140 rubles (€1,75) in 90 minutes. The bus ride is fun and you'll pass the National Congress Palace or Konstantinovsky Palace.
